GM Order Discounts and Return Policies

General Motors introduces changes to Parts Purchase Discounts & Return Policies.

The current RIM Return Program will continue for RIM Controlled parts. These parts will be RIM protected (eligible for return) up to RIM Stocking Policy Quantity at time of last RIM order. GM has changed the hold period before RIM Return is calculated from twelve (12) months to fifteen (15) months. This change will increase Dealers’s “on shelf” inventory value in GM State Code 04 and 05 parts. (Dealers will receive a “Hold Premium” on RIM-generated returns to offset the extension of the hold period beginning October 1st , 2009. (GM Has not defined how long this additional 2% will continue).

General Motors has changed the discounts allowed on parts purchases as well as the penalty for not being on the RIM Program and not being RIM Compliant. The effect of these changes will be to reduce Dealer’s profits in discounts & allowances earned (account 687 on financial statement).
  • Discounts earned on DRO (Daily Replenishment Orders) for RIM, non-RIM and non-RIM Dealers has been reduced from 4% to 2%.
  • CSO (Customer Special Order) discount for RIM Dealers has been reduced from 2% to 0%.
  • CSO (Customer Special Order) surcharge for non-compliant RIM Dealers (less than 85% of RIM Recommend inventory) has increased from 2% to 4%.
  • CSO (Customer Special Order) surcharge for non-RIM Dealers has increased from 5% to 7%

General Motors has introduced a 2% “Return Reserve” for RIM Dealers on RIM DRO and CSO orders.

  • RIM dealers that place DRO orders outside of RIM will not earn return reserve on these orders.
  • Non-RIM Dealers will not earn return reserve on DRO or CSO orders.

As part of the original RIM Program All CSO Parts Were Returnable with a forty eight hour hold period, no freight charges and no restocking fees. Effective November 1, 2007 the hold period was changed to sixty days with freight charges and restocking fees. As of July 1, 2009 the CSO Return Program will change again, this change will NOT benefit the Dealer.

  • During the Period from July 1st , 2009 to September 30th, 2009, the return provisions for CSO returns will transition from the current MR11 program to the use of MR01 returns utilizing the return reserve process.
  • Beginning October 1st, 2009 the MR11 return type will be redefined as an “Excess CSO Return Program”. This return type will allow RIM Dealers to return CSO (special orders) for up to one (1) year with a 35% “Restocking Fee”.
  • Beginning October 1st, 2009 “Special Orders Not Delivered To Customers” will need to be returned to Carline using earned return reserve (return type MR01) or with a 35% restocking fee (return type MR11).
